1940s DeLill France White Beaded Evening Bag with Elaborate Beaded Frame
This vintage French evening bag, made by DeLill, features a swirled white beaded exterior and an extremely elaborate goldtone frame encrusted with tiny seed beads, gray faux pearls, and prong-set clear rhinestones. There is a white and goldtone metal decoration inset into the top of the frame, picturing loops and swirls. The frame has two angled "shoulders" on each side. The half-medallion clasp is decorated similarly to the frame.
The inside of the bag is pale cream sateen, with a couple of small stains, as shown. I have not tried to remove them. The rest of the interior appears clean.
The bag also includes an interior pocket with a frameless mirror, still in its paper bag, and a small matching coin purse.
The frame has some mild damage that can easily be repaired by anyone who is handy with wire beading, and can locate appropriate-sized gray beads. See pictures, showing two areas of faux pearl loss, and wire sticking out. The other side is not damaged, and provides a guide for repairing the damaged side. The bag's white beading is in excellent condition, with only a few tiny beads missing in the back, where the bag meets the frame. The handle also has 2 or 3 beads missing on one side, where it meets the frame.
The inside of the bag is marked "DeLill HAND MADE IN FRANCE" on a sewn-in tag.
The bag measures 9/1/2" across, and 7" tall, not including the frame "shoulders" and the handle, which is about 14" long.
